New rugby documentary series dropping on ESPN
Spring Media has secured a deal with ESPN for its Australian, New Zealand and Pacific Island markets to air documentary series RugbyTown premiering this month.
The deal is a result of a worldwide distribution cooperation between the international sports media agency and documentary production provider, Rugby Factory, initiated earlier this year.
“With the Australasia ESPN deal in place and positive discussions ongoing around the globe, we expect to announce more broadcast deals shortly,” said Craig Neilson, Commercial Manager at Spring Media. “With the current British and Irish Lions tour in South Africa ongoing, and both northern and southern hemisphere Test rugby underway, the appetite for rugby content is at an all-time high. This fast-paced, action-packed documentary gives series lovers an opportunity to follow true U.S. athletes in their conquest to become the world number 1 in rugby.”
RugbyTown is a docu series on the RugbyTown Crossover Academy based in Glendale, Colorado, that recruits NFL-quality American athletes and trains them full-time in a residential high-performance environment. The ambition is to lay foundations for U.S. National Team success: to ultimately be crowned World Champs within the decade.
“We’re delighted to share RugbyTown with sports fans in Australia and New Zealand as they know the quality and explosiveness of the American NFL athlete, and they know their rugby, as well,” said Glendale Mayor Mike Dunafon.
The Rugby Factory filming crew is embedded within the Academy, capturing the players’ transformation from individual athletes into a cohesive rugby squad. The inaugural season now available features 10 episodes, and season two will be ready for distribution at the end of the year.

About Glendale, CO, RugbyTown USA
Cities, like sports teams, are judged by the measure of their success; and in 2006, Glendale city leaders set out to make this the rugby epicenter of the United States as a way to drive economic development. Since that time, Glendale’s extensive rugby programming and high-end rugby-specific facilities have attracted top athletes and thousands of visitors to this dynamic community. Dubbed RugbyTown USA, Glendale is now the official training center of the men’s and women’s US National Teams (XVs) and the RugbyTown Crossover Academy, dedicated to training US athletes to play rugby at the highest levels.
